At the Rio Earth Summit of 1992, the international community adopted important resolutions on how the precious resources of our planet should be equitabliy shared and protected for future generations. 10 years later tourism has not fulfilled the hopes and promises of Rio. Within the recent years it has become one of the world's leading industries. Since tourism profits from beautiful landscapes and natural and cultural diversity, and relies on peace and security for its development, it would be in the tourism industry's interest to contribute to the protection of the global environment and social justice.
